HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-03-2024MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MORTON GROVE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT LUNCHROOM AUGUST 3, 2024 CALL TO ORDER I. Village President Pro -Tem Janine Witko convened the Special Meeting of the Village Board at 10:16 a.m. in the Lunch Room of the Public Works Department and led the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance. II. Village Administrator Meyer called the roll. Present were Trustees Saba Khan, John Thill, Connie Travis, and Janine Witko. Trustee Rita Minx arrived at 10:21 a.m. III. Trustee Travis made a motion to appoint Trustee Witko to the position of President Pro -Tem. The motion was seconded by Trustee Khan. The motion was approved via a voice vote with 3 ayes, 0 nays. IV. Tour of Public Works Facilities Mike Lukich, Public Works Director, presented an overview of the Public Works Department and purpose of the meeting to provide an overview of facilities and equipment to inform future deci- sions by the Village Board regarding the capital improvement program. Mr. Lukich introduced the staff members who will be leading the tour including Kevin Lochner, Director of Operations, Bill Burns, Superintendent of Facilities, and Chris Tomich, Village Engineer. Mr. Lochner began providing an overview of the Village's water system and the presentation of the Village's North.and South Pumping Stations. Mr. Lochner summarized recent capital improvements for the water system and anticipated projects. The Meeting left the Public Works Department at approximately 10:45 a.m. and used a bus provid- ed by the Maine -Niles Association of Special Recreation (M-NASR) for the elected officials and members of the public present for the Meeting. The bus arrived at the Public Works North Pump- ing Station at 8820 National Avenue, Morton Grove, at approximately 10:54 a.m. Tour of Public Works North Pumping Station at 8820 National Avenue The bus arrived at the Public Works North Pumping Station at 8820 National Avenue, Morton Grove, at approximately 10:54 a.m. Marty Durkins, Pumping Station Supervisor, and Joe Alongi, Pumping Station Operator, lead a tour of the facility at this location. The staff presentation includ- ed an overview of the equipment on site and how it provides potable water to the community. Staff summarized the age of equipment within the facility along with anticipated future invest- ments for the site to be considered as part of a future Budget process. The tour included the pumping facilities and water tower. The bus departed the Public Works North Pumping Station at Minutesgf 1â–ºtgyi,t 3,.2f 024 Special Board Meeting approximately 11:56 a.m. Tour of Public Works South Pumling; Station at 6702 Oakton Street Mr. Durkin and Mr. Alongi continued their tour of the pumping facilities and provided an overview of the South Pumping Station along with the equipment located within the facility. The Tour in- cluded a visit to the building and the basement storage facility for the water. At approximately 12:17 p.m. the meeting returned to the bus and left the facility. Tour of Public Works Facility at 7840 Nagle Avenue At approximately 12:21 p.m. the meeting returned to the Public Works Facility to continue the Tour. Mr. Burns provided a walkthrough of the facilities including the Maintenance Division, Trees Division, Streets Division, and Water and Sewer Division. The meeting visited the vehicle garage and salt dome and ended the facility tour outside of Public Works in the front public parking lot. Mr. Lochner presented four vehicles, a Vactor, tractor, street sweeper, and small tractor for side- walks. At approximately 12:52 p.m. the meeting returned to the Public Works Lunch Room to wrap up dis- cussions. RESIDENTS' COMMENTS Mazhar Khan spoke, stating how appreciative he is of the Public Works Department and keeping residents safe and the partnership with the Park District. VI. ADJOURNMENT Trustee Travis moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Trustee Minx. Motion passed unanimously via voice vote.
