HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-04-30 Town Hall MinutesTOWN HALL MEETING MINUTES VILLAGE OF MORTON GROVE MANSFIELD PARK FIELD HOUSE 5830 CHURCH, MORTON GROVE, ILLINOIS APRIL 30, 2007 The meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm by Village President Richard Krier. He led the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance and then Clerk Fritzshall called the roll. In attendance were: Elected Officials: President Richard Krier, Trustees Georgianne Brunner, Rita Minx, Daniel Staackmann, and Clerk Carol A. Fritzshall Absent: Trustees Daniel DiMaria, Roy Kogstad, and Dale Senensky Village Staff: Corporation Counsel Teresa Hoffman Liston, Finance Director/Treasurer Daniela Partipilo, Police Chief Paul Tasch, District Fire Chief Frank Rodgers, Community and Economic Development Director Bill Neuendorf, Building Commissioner Ed Hildebrandt, Family and Senior Services Director Jackie Walker-O'Keefe, and Public Works Director Andy DeMonte Guests: Members of the Community Relations Commission, Trustee Elect Sheldon Marcus, Trustee Elect John Thill, Nick Katz, Morton Grove Champion, and approximately 3 members of the public Mayor Krier thanked the assemblage, especially the Community Relations Commission for hosting the Town Hall meeting. He then introduced Village Staff who was present at the meeting and opened the meeting up for questions. Marianne Thill asked for suggestions as to how to have more publicity and attract more people to the Town Hall meetings. A general discussion ensued. Maria Toth asked Mayor Krier to contact the Park District to help with publicity. Mayor Krier stated he would contact Jeff Fougerousse for this purpose. Trustee Elect John Thill then discussed an incident which occurred on Earth Day regarding the controlled burn which took place at the forest preserve. Certain people from Edgebrook had intentionally kicked over an ash dome, started a fire and called the Fire Department. He thanked the Fire Department for their quick response but suggested in the future, the Fire Department contact the police if this kind of behavior occurs again. Nancy Lanning asked Mayor Krier to explain a recent article in the Champion regarding lost tax revenue. Mayor Krier explained a current bill pending before the State Senate regarding point of destination sales taxes. He also reviewed a current law regarding sales tax sharing agreements with other communities, and rules regarding the taxation of carpets and other products that are installed. Terri Cousar commended the people who assisted in making the last New Resident Reception so successful. She also asked whether or not the Village could remain open during the new resident reception so new residents could pay their water bills, get vehicle stickers, etc. Marianne Thill and Nancy Lanning relayed compliments regarding the Village of Morton Grove. Robin Kaplan suggested for future Town Hall meetings, the Village show off programs or new equipment like the display of the new ambulance at the January 29, 2007, Town Hall meeting. There being no further business, Trustee Staakmann moved to adjourn the Town Hall meeting at 8:37 pm. The motion was seconded by Trustee Minx and approved unanimously pursuant to a voice vote.
